Olá para todos.  Primeiramente, desculpem (novamente) o atraso das atualizações. O fim de ano de Eleny (de todos nós, na realidade) foi bastante agitado, com muito trabalho mas também muita comemoração e alegria.

Com a família inteira reunida para o Natal, Eleny se emocionou bastante. Foi um Natal muito especial para todos nós, principalmente por ela ter participado da festa. Para o fim de ano, alugamos uma casa no litoral, bem perto da areia para que pudéssemos trazê-la para a praia mais facilmente. Foi uma semana tranquila, e Eleny se divertiu embora não nos ter deixado levá-la para o mar.

Depois do Reveillon, ela voltou para casa e re-começou o trabalho de recuperação. Todos os dias ela tem fisioterapia de manhã e fonoaudiologia antes do almoço. Duas vezes por semana ela tem sessões de energização e na semana passada começou acupuntura, também duas vezes por semana. Hoje a fonoaudióloga nos mostrou uma folha de papel marcada Setembro 2004, com alguns exercícios de escrita de Eleny, e comparou com o mesmo exercício feito esta semana. O progresso é realmente impressionante.

Nos 30 dias que passei aqui com ela, eu notei uma melhora incrível. Ela tem se esforçado para falar bem mais do que antes, tanto em pessoa como no telefone, e esse esforço tem rendido. Ela consegue se comunicar bem melhor agora, e têm também tentado falar coisas mais difíceis. Embora ela ainda não consiga mexer a perna e o braço direito, ela tem demonstrado na fisioterapia que eventualmente vai conseguir. O entusiasmo para trabalhar está lá, e cada dia ela consegue fazer um pouco mais.

É dificil imaginar que já fazem sete meses desde o começo, tão como é dificil ler o que escrevemos naquelas primeiras semanas. A jornada ainda não acabou. Há muito esforço pela frente ainda, e cada dia continua sendo uma batalha.

Agradecemos a Deus por ter dado a ela a vontade de melhorar, e a todos vocês que vem acompanhando essa jornada pelo apoio e carinho que temos recebido desde o início e que continua a cada dia.

Hello everyone. First, please forgive (again) the scarceness of updates. Eleny's holiday season was very busy, with a lot of hard work but also with a lot of celebration and happiness.

With her whole family together for Christmas, Eleny was very emotional. It was a very special Christmas for all of us, becaues she was with able to participate in the celebration. For New Year's, we rented a house by the ocean, really close to the sand to make it easier for us to take her to the beach. It was a peaceful week, the weather was great and Eleny had a great time, even though she wouldn't let us take her in the water.

After New Year's, she returned home and got back to work on getting better. Every day she has physical therapy in the morning and phono-audiology before lunch. Twice a week she has energizing sessions and last week she started acupuncture, also twice a week. This morning the phono-audiologist showed us a piece of paper marked September 2004, with some writing exercises Eleny did back then, and compared to one from this week. Her progress really is impressive.

In the 30 days I spent here with her, I saw an incredible improvement. She has put much more of an effort into speaking than before, both in person and on the phone, and this effort has been paying off. She can communicate much better now, even though she has been trying to say more complex words and phrases. And even though she still can't move her right arm and leg, she has shown during her physical therapy that it is only a matter of time until she can. Her enthusiasm to work is there, and every day she can do a little bit more.

It is hard to imagine that it has been seven months since the beginning, and it is just as hard to read what we wrote back then during those first few weeks. The journey is not over. There is much work ahead, and every day is still a battle.

We thank God for giving her the will to get better, and we thank all of you who have been following her journey for all your love and support, which we continue to receive every day.

A família e amigos de Eleny pedem e agradecem as orações de todos.  Os médicos nos informaram que só 5% das vítimas com traumas parecidos sobrevivem. Eleny sobreviveu e está ultrapassando todas as expectativas quanto à rapidez de sua recuperação, mas ainda tem vários meses de reabilitação pela frente.

A todos que têm nos ajudado durante este periodo, incluíndo a família, amigos, a polícia, a imprensa e a equipe médica, principalmente o Dr. Marcos Stavale...  Muito Obrigado.

Eleny's friends and family ask and thank everyone for their prayers. The doctors informed us only 5% of victims with a trauma this severe survive at all. Eleny has survived and is surpassing all expectations as far as her recovery speed, but there are still several months of rehabilitation ahead.

To all those who have helped us during this tough period, including family, friends, the police, the media and the medical staff, especially Dr. Marcos Stavale... Thank You.
